Do not be surprised if your dog or cat has the curious idea to undress at the dawn of the cold or hot season: it is precisely because winter or summer tip their nose and the animals naturally renew their coat.

Twice a year, around the months of April-May then in October-November, the new hairs grow on the old ones. During these periods, 90% of the coat is in a growth phase. This moulting period lasts approximately 1 month.

The similarities stop there because the two successive moults obviously do not have the same role: The moult of autumn gives birth to a hair much longer and more dense, whereas the moult of the spring is intended to lighten the winter coat.

The skin and the coat are above all an outer envelope, which surrounds the body of your animal and which is the mirror of his health. It is a complex organ composed of several layers of cells. The most superficial layer of the skin, the epidermis, is a very thin layer. The cells multiply and transform, and they migrate permanently from the depth to the surface, where they die.

The skin is in permanent renewal, it is a living organ. This phenomenon is normal. In a healthy dog or cat, it takes 21 to 28 days for a cell born in the basal layer to be eliminated in the environment by desquamation.

How to control this exaggerated hair loss?

Even outside these two specific periods, the coat is regularly renewed. Do not hesitate to brush your pet to eliminate dust, dirt, dirt and dead hair accumulated in the fur. In times of moulting, it is better to intensify maintenance with a good wash at the end of each moult to eliminate dead hair, many more during these two periods of the year.

Note : A quality food and a good supplement with vitamins and minerals will be essential to restore beautiful fur and keep it healthy throughout the year.
